While our world continues to evolve, journalism becomes more crucial every day. I feel as if it’s my duty to be the voice of those who aren’t being heard. I want to tell people’s stories, inform the public of what’s going on in the world and simply contribute to our societal growth.
From a young age, public speaking came naturally to me. My passion for telling stories is what ultimately drove me to journalism, especially broadcasting.
I began my journalistic career in Langara College’s journalism diploma program in Vancouver, B.C. There, I led the student-run newspaper, the Voice, as a managing editor. Additionally, I was a managing editor for the media team at the Canadian Collegiate Athletics Association men’s soccer championship, working as the only woman on the team. As part of the program, I received the opportunity to experience a professional newsroom at Global Television in Burnaby B.C. as an intern. From video editing, copy editing, photography, radio production and reporting, it’s safe to say I gathered many transferable skills to work in any newsroom.
I’ve achieved multiple journalism scholarships for academic achievement and outstanding leadership as a managing editor from Langara College. I was honoured to receive the Shelley Fralic Journalism Scholarship in March of 2023. After graduating, I decided to continue my studies at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) in the broadcast and online journalism program, with the determination of landing a job in a professional newsroom. Broadcast journalism is a life-long passion of mine, one that I want to share with the world. I will work hard every day in order to do so.
